ABOUT THE SERIES

This series is dedicated to the study of Cistercian themes, encompassing a wide range of disciplines including history, art history, architecture, archaeology, heraldry, liturgy, music, and beyond. It welcomes research focusing on the Cistercian Order, including the normative framework established by its General Chapter, its monasteries and nunneries, their architecture, monastic settlements, and material culture, as well as the communities who inhabited them. Topics also include the Order’s interactions with secular and ecclesiastical powers, monastic archives and administrative records, codices and libraries, and the broader cultural and artistic production associated with the Cistercian world. Promoting both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, the series supports rigorous scholarship that explores the historical, cultural, artistic, and spiritual legacy of the Cistercians.

The series is published in collaboration with the Institute of Medieval Studies at NOVA University of Lisbon.
